Luke Houlton, Engineer-Manager for Cheboygan County, Michigan Wins"Guess The Weight of the Steel Bridge" Contest at 2010 NACE Conference

 

At the 2010 Annual National Association of County Engineers (NACE) Conference in Ft. Worth, Texas, the Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA) sponsored a contest, inviting attendees to use their best calculating skills to guess the pounds of steel in the short span bridge (pictured below) located in Del City, Oklahoma. The winning answer was submitted by Luke Houlton, Engineer-Manager for Cheboygan County, Michigan with a guess of 141,196 lbs. The actual weight of the bridge is 177,626 lbs.

 

Cambridge Truss bridge The 139-foot long, 24-foot wide Cambridge Truss bridge is made of self-weathering steel and has a five-foot sidewalk. The short span bridge was fabricated by U.S. Bridge and is owned by RCL Development.
