SSSBA Announces Session on New Bridge Technology at 2019 NASCC: The Steel Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 26, 2019 – The Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA) announces its session on “Research and Construction of Press-Brake-Formed Steel Tub Girder Bridges” at 2019 NASCC: The Steel Conference in St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 9:15-10:15 a.m. in Room 130. The session will be conducted by Karl Barth, Ph.D., the Jack H. Samples Distinguished Professor of Structural Engineering at West Virginia University; and Guy Nelson, S.E., P.E. of TEG Engineering, LLC. Participants are eligible for 1.0 PDH.

“Press-brake-formed steel tub girder bridges are a cost-effective, time-saving solution for replacing structures of up to 140 feet, which make up most of the U.S. bridge inventory,” said Rich Tavoletti, director of the Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance. “This session is an introduction to this innovative bridge solution. It will cover recent research and case studies of projects now in service, and explain some lessons learned along the way. It’s designed for engineers and fabricators, but we encourage anyone who is looking for a new way to meet their ongoing bridge design and installation challenges to join us.”

The Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance will also host an exhibit at the conference. Rich Tavoletti will be available at Booth 539 to discuss short span steel bridge solutions.

2019 NASCC: The Steel Conference is hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction and will take place April 3-5, 2019 at America’s Center Convention Complex. It is the premier educational and networking event for the structural steel industry, bringing together structural engineers, steel fabricators, erectors and detailers.
