Short Span Steel Bridges 
AISC to Honor Gary Wisch for Special Achievement Award
The American Institute of Steel Construction will honor 12 leaders across the structural steel design, construction, and academic communities with prestigious awards for their achievements and contributions.
One of the recipients for the Special Achievement Award is SSSBA member Gary W. Wisch, PE, Vice President, Engineering, at DeLong’s Inc.
The Special Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated notable achievements in structural steel design, construction, research, or education. It honors those who have made a positive and substantial impact on the structural steel design and construction industry.
Gary has worked for DeLong’s Inc., an active NSBA/AISC fabricator member, for 38 years. He spent his first seven years as a research engineer and the subsequent 31 years as the Engineering Vice President.
In this role, Wisch supervises all engineering, drafting, and quality control functions. Over the years, Wisch has been involved in numerous civic, religious, educational, and professional organizations. He has served on several NSBA/AASHTO Collaboration task groups, beginning in 1998. He began representing DeLong’s on the NSBA Executive Council in 2008 and recently served four years as chair of the Executive Council. Wisch has been married 36 years. He and his wife, Jackie, have three children and three grandchildren.

Bridge Task Force and AASHTO Steel Leaders Meet in Alaska
The Steel Bridge Task Force and AASHTO Steel and Metals Technical Committee met in Anchorage for technical presentations, project updates and industry recognition. The meetings concluded with an Alaska DOT hosted tour of the Juneau Creek Bridge and surrounding Sterling Highway construction.

SSSBA to Present at North Central States Consortium in Omaha, NE (Sept. 28-30)
Dr. Michael Barker, University of Wyoming, will represent SSSBA at the North Central States Consortium (NCSC) in Omaha, Nebraska. His presentation (Tuesday, September 29, 1:30–2:15 p.m.) will explore how optimized plate girders can expand the range of steel solutions for bridges with spans of 60 to 100 feet.

AISI Corrosion Advisory Group to Meet October 27 in Ohio
The AISI Corrosion Advisory Group (CAG) will meet October 27 at the Sherwin-Williams Research & Development Center in Ohio. Discussions will focus on corrosion research, coatings, steel durability and related industry needs.
