Steel Industry Opposes Timber Bridge Bill
This week key aspects of the steel industry, including AISI’s Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance, led the charge in Mississippi to defeat a bill that would require certain new and replacement bridges in the state to be constructed and replaced as timber-based bridges.
A letter of opposition was sent in opposition to Representatives Randy Boyd & Brady Barrington Williamson, stating that the steel industry opposed their legislation as it favored one bridge material over another and that the structural materials for bridges should remain open left up to all building materials. Furthermore, that licensed design professionals should make the decision for local governments.
