SSSBA to Present at North Central States Consortium in Omaha, NE (Sept. 28-30)
The Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA) will present at the North Central States Consortium (NCSC) meeting, held September 28–30, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska. The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and SSSBA are sponsors of the event.
The consortium brings together state departments of transportation, steel bridge fabricators and suppliers to discuss bridge design and fabrication practices across the upper Midwest.

Dr. Michael Barker, SSSBA Director of Education and Professor at the University of Wyoming
Dr. Barker will share findings from a new SSSBA study showing how optimized plate girders can expand the steel solutions available for short span bridges with spans of 60 feet and greater. Using case studies and design examples, he will explain how span length, weight, availability and project requirements influence design decisions.
The session will also introduce SSSBA’s eBEAM140 and ePLATE140 design tools, which help engineers develop and evaluate rolled beam and plate girder options for a project.

Students: The University of Wyoming and the Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance created a free 6-part live-lecture educational series to cover the many aspects of designing, fabricating, and constructing steel bridges.
